“Beyond writing – other strategies for recording for pupils

with Down Syndrome” Thursday 1st May

Most pupils with Down syndrome will develop useful writing and/or typing skills given the right support over time. In the meantime, there are other strategies and technologies that can be used to explore what pupils know and think, and record their learning. The Down Syndrome Development Trust and Symbol UK are providing this training day for professionals and parents supporting children and young adults to discuss why writing for recording can be unhelpful for pupils with Down syndrome, and look at a range of alternatives, including communication charts, Talking Mats and IT. Please bring along examples or information about strategies that have worked for your pupil, as well as challenges that you would like to explore in this training day.
