We are proud to announce our music project ‘SOUND SUMMIT ‘is being backed by @youthmusic @ace_national & @lottogoodcauses.

We’re super excited about our project, SOUND SUMMIT!

It’s going to offer our amazing young people the chance to join in weekly music lessons in cozy, small groups.

We’ll be using the fantastic team @ New Rock Generation  and their ‘Write, Record & Perform’ curriculum, which has been created specifically for young musicians and bands of every level.

The sessions will offer fun activities such as music tuition, songwriting, studio recording @ Small Pond Studios, pre-production, and even live performances!

Sessions are all about nurturing creativity, boosting performance skills, and even exploring the possibilities of a career in the music industry.

So Cool!!

How does UAS work?
Every centre must have a trained coordinator who runs and is responsible for UAS.

UAS is a powerful tool for recognising individuals for specific knowledge, skills and experiences gained through almost any valid educational activity. UAS offers individuals formal recognition by means of accreditation from AQA, the UK’s largest exam board. Students receive a certificate for each unit they complete, which lists the outcomes and experiences covered in the unit. These can then be used in support of applications for further education, training or employment. UAS is very flexible and all units can be customised at no cost. This lets you match units to your existing learning programmes both in terms of delivery and context as well as how you want to evidence completed work. It even enables you to evidence individuals differently to suit their abilities. You can also write your own units or make amendments to existing units.

ELC’s (Entry Level Certificates): ELCs are unitised qualifications designed for lower ability students who may not achieve a grade 1 at GCSE but which are closely linked with GCSEs to help with co-teaching. They’re available at Entry 1, 2 and 3. ELC’s are for: Learners who may find it difficult to access GCSE qualifications Learners on taster courses Learners with learning difficulties Adult learners .

Forest school supports learning through outdoor exploration and helps to develop confidence through learner-centred experiences in a natural setting.

Whether our young people are toasting marshmallows on campfires, joining in on an array of outdoor sports activities or exploring the wonders of nature in the woods, our sessions at Bushy Wood are fun for everyone.

Techniques currently recognised as the best practice method of teaching children with Down Syndrome how to read and develop speech and language skills.

How it works

Using the Oxford Reading Tree books, and the DSDT’s own resources for sentence recognition and flash cards, we enable care providers and parents with important visual aids in developing and improving reading fluency.

Getting ready to read

Other elements of the reading intervention include preparing for reading: work on sensory integration exercises (getting the body ready), and music and rhythm practice. Both scientifically proven to better develop brain organisation and focus.

This scheme is designed to get you started on good reading practice. DSDT staff will guide you through the activities, and provide you with advice on how to further implement them into your day.

Who is it available to?

The intervention is available to schools or individuals wanting to develop their child’s reading and ultimately speech and language skills.

How can I sign up?

To effectively get you into the swing, we offer a course of five sessions each lasting 45 minutes, over a period of five weeks.
This provides you the opportunity to ask further questions as issues arise during this time.
